The truck race at Martinsville on March 15th, 2022 under the lights is everything you would think a short track race on the big stage would be.

There was bumping, banging, spinning, wrecking and tempers a plenty. Out of the 113 laps completed we saw a season high 11 cautions for 44 laps total as well as one of the messiest final laps we have seen in any series this season.

The race started off extremely strong and fast with 50 laps of hard racing with only one caution that was a one driver incident in turn 2 as Barney Sigman caught the inside curb and spun in front of the #51 Toyota of Eric Wolfe. After the halfway point things seemed to go wild. Tempers started to flare as drivers were beating on bumpers to get by.

Drivers found themselves in the hot seat a plenty as positions were flipped and flopped around. In the final 10 laps of the race we saw the most cautions as the JRL Truck Series used ALL THREE of their Green, White, Checkered finish set-ups to finally crown a winner under green.

As the race went green for the final restart, the #7 of Brandon Van Buytene spun his tires and caught the front nose of Stoney Benfield. This really shifted the momentum into the hands of the current third place driver, Domenic Previte.

Going into turn 3 on the final lap, we had a pass that unfolded one of the most interesting stories going into Bristol as Domenic Previte was leading the race and was punted hard going into the corner by the #7 of Brandon Van Buytene.

Also coming out of turn four we saw the #51 of Eric Wolfe and #69 of Todd Danbury make contact sending the #51 Toyota nose first into the inside wall. Wolfe only lost 2 spots due to the accident and finished 5th.

The radios of Domenic Previte and Eric Wolfe sounded very similar after crossing the line, both unhappy with how the drivers they were racing for position handled themselves. Previte met the winner of the race on the backstretch before Van Buytene could celebrate his victory. Thankfully that is where it ended before any of it came to verbal or physical blows!
